The Gonstead technique is one of the many different techniques used by chiropractors to address what we call "subluxations" of the spine and other joints. Its developer was Dr. C. S. Gonstead who practiced for decades to create a very biomechanical, foundational based way to correct these subluxated joints. He had a background in engineering so he saw the human frame like any engineer would view structures. You start with the structural foundation and work your way up correcting only what is necessary and leaving the rest alone. Specific chiropractic adjusting is the ONLY way to correct the VSC (vertebral subluxation complex).
Webster certified and expecting mothers
The comfort of our expecting mothers is a big priority! We do everything we can to make your pregnancy as comfortable and successful as possible. We do NOT put any pressure on or manipulate the baby itself while in the womb. The goal is to give the baby the best environment possible for normal motion, thus, reducing the incidence of breech birth.
The Webster technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation. In so doing neurobiomechanical function in the pelvis is improved. We also perform corrections of various ligaments (including the round ligaments) to maximize comfort and success throughout the entire pregnancy.
Our children are our most precious gifts. The growing years are the most important times to make sure the developing nervous system is functioning optimally. A child's first injury to the spine often occurs during the birthing process regardless of what setting they were brought into this world. There is a link between SIDS and upper cervical injuries (subluxations) there for, an infant's spine should always be checked for problems very early.
The safest adjustment on an infant spine is a gentle sustained contact to the segment to be corrected. A baby should never cry due to pain during an adjustment. Most infant spinal corrections are done using the doctor's finger tips placed on the individual segment to be corrected with light pressure until the correction is made. This is mostly done with the infant laying on top of the parent who is laying face up on the adjusting table.
Conditions that can be addressed chiropractically are latching issues, head tilt, torticollis, colic and crawling/mobility issues just to name a few.
We don't force anything. If the child is having a "bad day" and doesn't want to be adjusted we won't adjust that day.
Keeping your spine and nervous system functioning at its highest potential is a top priority at Your Family Chiropractic Care. When it comes to our "seasoned" patients, mobility is a very close second! Gentle corrections to the spine and extremities can keep patients much more mobile which maintains independence for as long as possible. We have a very large senior patient base and WE DO ACCEPT MEDICARE. Dr. Hickman has even adjusted someone at the age of 101 and the patient did great!
Want an excellent way to relieve and correct bulging and herniated vertebral disks without surgery? Dr. Hickman is nationally certified in spinal decompression therapy. Just lay on the table and relax while it does the work!
If you have ever watched a major sporting event and seen dark circles on some of the athletes, that's because they have been using cupping therapy. It is a simple way to further relieve those tight back muscles after a specific adjustment.
